On this episode of the FFFoxy Podcast, we dig deeper into the work of Louisville-based, Sophomore Lounge, a label that has been active for well beyond a decade and has issued over 100 releases from artists that cover a broad spectrum of homespun, DIY sounds. The label is run by Ryan Davis, a talented musician and songwriter who fronts the excellent band, State Champion, and is also a member of the groups Tropical Trash and Equipment Pointed Ankh. On this installment, we chat with Davis about his work running Sophomore Lounge, about his involvement in organizing the Cropped Out Music Festival, and about his own music and songwriting pursuits. Throughout the show, you’ll also hear a bunch of music from the Sophomore Lounge catalog, focusing largely on the newer releases that they have put out in recent years, along with some forthcoming titles.
As noted in the closing of the show, we’re hoping to be back in a couple of weeks with a new episode. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, however, we will not be able to access the KMSU studios for the time being, so this will likely slow down our usual production of bi-monthy episodes. We’re working to get a basic set-up in place in the FFF bunker so that we can continue to record new episodes. We’ll keep you posted through our website and other social media outlets on the status of the show moving forward. For now, thanks so much for looking and listening, and more importantly, take care of yourself and look out for others as we work through these difficult times.
