On this installment, we dig deeper into the work of Blank Forms, a non-profit organization based in New York City that is dedicated to supporting emerging and underrepresented artists in the field of experimental music, performance, dance, sound art, and other interdisciplinary art practices. Blank Forms’ activities are wide-ranging: they present performances and artist residencies, they publish records, books, and an in-house journal, and they do a great deal of behind-the-scenes archival and curatorial work. In short, they have done quite a bit since forming in 2016.
I recently had a chance to interview the founder and Artistic & Executive Director of Blank Forms, Lawrence Kumpf. We discuss the background of the organization and its various activities, and we get into how they have been adapting in the time of COVID when live performances are not a possibility right now. In addition to that, you’ll hear selections from several Blank Forms Editions releases throughout the show, including from some of their forthcoming albums that are due out in the late summer/early fall. Hope you enjoy this episode. Feel free to get in touch if you have any comments or questions. As always, thanks for looking and listening.
