On this installment of the podcast, I chat with Markus Acher, who is a German musician, composer, label owner, festival organizer, and much more, perhaps best known for his work in the long-running band, The Notwist. Earlier this year, The Notwist released their first album in seven years called Vertigo Days, which finds the group expanding on their signature sound and changing up their usual recording process by seeking contributions from other musicians from around the world that they shared a bond with. In the process, they crafted what is arguably one of their strongest releases in their over three decades as a band. I spoke with Markus this week not only about the making of Vertigo Days but also about his other more recent collaborative project Spirit Fest, his work in running the Alien Transistor label, and his role in releasing the excellent Minna Miteru compilation and series that focuses on contemporary indie music coming out of Japan. Throughout the show, you’ll also hear music from all of these different areas discussed. I hope you enjoy this episode. Feel free to get in touch if you have any comments or questions. As always, thanks for looking and listening.
