For this installment of the podcast, I was joined in the studio by the Minneapolis-based band, IE, who have been creating heavily atmospheric and hypnotic music together since 2016. As a self-described “non-genre band” their sound draws from a variety of traditions such as minimalism, ambient, drone, psychedelic, and avant pop. This past month, IE released a brand new album called, Junk Body, which finds the band moving in a more song-oriented direction while still retaining their time-stretched approach to composition. The members of IE traveled down from Minneapolis to join me at KMSU’s satellite studio at the Arts Center of St. Peter where we discussed the history of the band, the making of their new album, their upcoming tour plans, and other topics. We also played some tracks from their new album, and the members of the band picked out a handful of other tracks to play by artists that they admire. After our interview, we relocated to the lower gallery area of the Arts Center, and IE performed the entirety of their new album from start to finish for a small audience, which you’ll get to hear in the second half of the show.
