On this episode of the podcast, we dug into the compelling sound work of the Argentinan field recordist, musician, composer, and filmmaker, Pablo Picco, who is perhaps best known for his homespun Musique concrète and free folk sounds that he has created as Bardo Todol. Under this moniker and its subtle variations, Picco’s domestic life with his family has seeped into his many recordings, but his list of collaborators extends far beyond this into an impressive roster of like-minded experimental artists from around the world, including Anne F. Jacques, Uton, Chemiefaserwerk, and Robert Millis to name a few.
This past week, I had a chance to speak with Pablo about his background in music making, his considerations and motivations when recording, and his various collaborations. In addition, we took time to discuss Bolinga Everest Records, a label that he started a few years ago that is issuing “distorted sounds from Argentina and some other parts of the mundo” on recycled cassette tapes. You’ll hear that interview with Pablo throughout the show in a few different segments, along with track selections from both the Bardo Todol and Bolinga Everest back catalogs. Hope you enjoy this episode. Feel free to get in touch if you have any comments or questions. As always, thanks for looking and listening.
